merits of eye donations and is ready to take the artistic route to drill the
message across theatre lovers and the masses.

existing throughout the country. We are on a mission to eradicate curable
blindness from the country.’’
‘’As a responsible corporate citizen, Advance Group’s CSR has always been about walking the extra mile for the needy. Neelanjana
Banerjee, Joint Secretary and one of the leading artists in Green Room Theatre,
says, ’’Over time, through our shows, we have realised that we can do a lot
more. Partnering with good corporate citizens like Advance Group’s MD Mr Ashok
Mahindru can provide an opportunity to send out social messages to our audience
and patrons. The Run For Vision’s noble endeavour of promoting eye donation is
a message we at GRT too, believe in, and hence it is our pleasure to send out
that message through our souvenirs and other visual publicity.’’Monday, 1 April 2013

| Rashtriya Sahara Gurgaon quotes Ashok Mahindru on the achievement |
Ashok Mahindru says, “India is home to world’s largest blind population. Around 1, 20, 00, 000 people are suffering from some kind of eye problem. 80 % of them are suffering from cataract or refractive errors which are curable through a normal medical process.” “Remaining 2.1 million people are suffering from acute corneal blindness that can only be eradicated through transplantation of corneas from eye donation, which must be performed with in about 6 hours of death.” Added Mr. Ashok Mahindru.
Underlining the problem of eye donations Ashok Mahindru said, “Against this, average number of eye donations in India languishes at about 38,600 per annum implying that even an impossible wait of 112 years will not help most. On the other hand approximately 9 million people die every year and one pair of eyes from a deceased person can be implanted on two blind persons implying a potential of 1 Cr. 80 Lac corneal transplants.” Highlighting the major cause for this unfortunate situation Ashok Mahindru says is lack of awareness among our countrymen about eye donation, its need and life changing impact on entire families of cornea recipients who are able to see this beautiful world again. Therefore, there is an urgent need to raise awareness about eye donation feels Ashok Mahindru.
With the vision of working towards total eradication of corneal blindness from the country, a Gurgaon based NGO Y P Mahindru Nirmaya Eye Bank Under Mr. Ashok Mahindru has achieved the set target of 1000 eye donations recently. Ashok Mahindru who has carried forward his father's dream initiative Y.P. Mahindru Niramaya Eye Bank, for 2012 had set the target of 1000 eye donation which was completed successfully. Many of these corneas have been transplanted by AIIMS, Delhi and PGIMS, Rohtak (Haryana) through an ongoing collaboration.
On this occasion of 1000th successful eye donation program Mr Ashok Mahindru said that “The journey has not stopped here rather it has just begin and I will urge my fellow citizens to Enlighten someone’s world by donating your eyes”.
Founder of the eye bank honorable Late Mr. Y.P Mahindru, father of Mr. Ashok Mahindru was a visionary philanthropist who believed that one gets deep inner satisfaction and happiness when one gets physically involved in philanthropy. Late Mr. Mahindru had worked for health care for over 6 decades and had regularly organized free eye surgery/care camps for the under privileged. Mr. Ashok Mahindru has been taking forward his father's vision by expanding the footprint through Run for Vision Foundation.
In 2004, Late Mr. Mahindru along with his son Ashok Mahindru guided a group of motivated professionals with a record experience in health and eye care to set up North India's first and largest private Eye bank with a mission of providing 'Quality Health Care to the Rural and Urban Poor".
It is the only govt. approved eye bank in South Haryana which is registered with Eye Bank Association of India. It follows standard world class procedures and is equipped with latest technology.
With a vision to reach out to many more and bring light in their life and family, Mr. Ashok Mahindru through his organization is relentlessly working hard to set up many more such eye banks.

Ashok Mahindru and Run For Vision's Congratulations to Blind Cricketers of India
Ashok Mahindru and Run For Vision Foundation congratulates Indian Cricket Team for winning Blind T20 World Cup 2012 beating Pakistan.
Just imagine how much more this bunch of talented people could do if they had eyes to see. Please pledge for eye donation in respect.
India beat Pakistan to win Blind Cricket T20 World Cup
BANGALORE: India on Thursday triumphed in the inaugural Blind Cricket Twenty20 World Cup after defeating Pakistan by 29 runs in the title clash.
After Ketan Bhai Patel guided India to 258 with a hurricane knock of 98, the hosts restricted the visitors to 229 for nine in the allotted 20 overs.
Batting first, Prakash Jayaramaiah made useful 42 while vice-captain Ajay Kumar Reddy contributed 25, helping India to post a competitive total.
For Pakistan, Mohammed Jameel scored a quickfire 47, Ali Murthaza struck 38 while Mohammed Akram helped himself to 32 runs.
Having won eight matches on the trot in the group stage, Pakistan could not maintain the winning streak when it mattered most.
India had only lost to Pakistan in the group stage and thrashed Sri Lanka in the semi-final.
Pakistan had spanked England by nine wickets in the semi-finals.
The victory is India's first in a World Cup final after they lost to Pakistan in 2006.

Remote primary eye treatment and eye donation unit to carry out:
- 10-20 primary OPDs per day
- 30-40 weekly full OPDs with the help of mobile unit
- 1500 refractive error corrections & extensive OPDs
- Retrieve and preserve corneas when donated (up to 50 in a year)
- Refer extensive care and surgery patients to central unit
